If you've been looking for handy, small notebooks filled with that wonderful Tomoe River paper, look no further! Kokuyo Stationery of Japan is offering these "slim" notebooks filled with white TR paper. They are very handy for taking notes on the run, and fit into a briefcase or purse with ease. These are actually part of a larger Kokuyo diary/organization system, but we like them as stand-alone items.

They come in two sizes. This listing is for the "Slim A5", which measures 125x210mm (about 4.9x8.3 inches)

Each book has 40 leaves (80 pages) of paper printed with a tasteful 3mm grid. The binding is sewn.

There are two books in a pack.

Kokuyo really got it right with these, including the price - if you do the math, you will find that these are by far the best value for a small Tomoe River notebook anywhere.

Note: If cut down to 110mm width, this A5 size works well in the Midori Traveler's Notebook.

Made in Japan.

  1. Its all about the paper. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 8th Jul 2018

Thought I try out the IDEA KOKUYO TOMOE RIVER PAPER, great price and like it said in the description you have to trim off a little to fit your Midori Journal. Had it cut to fit only .81 cent fir both notebooks. They fit the paper works well with Fountain Pens. I did have a bleed through when I use Noodles Baystate Blue Ink. I’m not sure why cause it never had in any other of my Tomoe River paper. I did try other inks and all work very well. It’s a keeper I like the notebook.
    Larrys Fountain Pens.

  2. Notebook with a 1000 uses 5 Star Review

There are just so many ways to use this notebook. They fit inside the cover for the Seven Seas notebook line for capturing quick ideas. They also work well inside suit jackets, for those business occasions. An of course with the Tomoe River paper you can't go wrong.

  3. Fit my Traveler's Journal! 5 Star Review

Love, love, love Tomoe River paper of course and these little booklets fit in my Traveler's Journal. Mine is a bit wider than most. It's a Webster's journal. The only thing that would make it better, IMO, is if the covers were a bit more interesting..

Definitely will be buying more of these!

  4. Disappointed...used to be 3 notebooks for this price, now its 2 notebooks 3 Star Review

well, this is definitely a way to increase profits by 33% ...

Note from dave@nanamipaper.com: We were disappointed too. This was a change by Kokuyo last year, not by us - our profit on this item did not increase. And in any case, this is still the cheapest option compared to other offerings out there.

  5. Good quality paper for use in bullet journak 5 Star Review

This is currently used as a bullet journal collections notebook for my work. Its fountain-pen friendly and does not show bleeding. Furthermore, it is thin enough to carry along inside my A5 planner.

  6. Love Tomoe RIver paper 5 Star Review

Although this was "skinnier" than my typical A5 size, I don't mind one bit because it could then fit into any of my handmade leather DIY A5 TN. I have not used them yet, but in 2017 I will. Hope your stuff never goes away! Lifelong customer here!

  7. An excellent use of Tomoe River paper 5 Star Review

Posted by on 3rd Jul 2016

I use the large Seven Seas, 480 page, TR paper journals and love them. But there are times when I want something small and light but don't want to give up my TR paper. These notebooks do the job. They are sewn in signatures and lie flat without needing weight or pressure. That make a big difference to me and a lot of other small format TR journals are stapled or don't lie flat. The 3mm grid also works for me. I use two rows, or a 6mm rule, and find it easy to do with a Japanese F or EF nib and a little harder but still acceptable with a European or American F. Highly recommend these. I also like the wabi-sabi design of the covers.

The Tomoe River IDEA journals are a great way to have this excellent fountain pen-friendly paper in a portable size.
