This "Kappan" notebook is very similar to the iconic Tsubame college notebooks in size and function. However, it uses the Life brand's signature laid-texture paper, which is very smooth and fountain-pen friendly. In other words, this is probably the highest quality Tsubame-style notebook you are likely to find.

The cover is a super smooth, with tiny threads reminiscent of money paper. The title, "LIFE KAPPAN NOTE" is pressed into the cover, similar to an old-time letterpress technique, although the depth of the print is barely perceptible. However, the text is very sharp and well done.

What's even more interesting is the color of the grid. It is hard to give it a name, but it appears as a light sepia, or gold, or dark yellow. It's uncommon and is a great alternative to the ubiquitous black and blue. And instead of the common total expanse of grid, each page has top and bottom margins, which gives the eyes some relief in the form of white space and is useful as well as pleasing to look at.
