Many fans of the A5-size Studio Note have found it a bit too large for everyday carry - indeed, lugging it in a briefcase, purse or tote can be tiresome over the length of a long walk or commute on the subway, and it seems to make sense to use it mainly in an office or studio setting.
But what if relaxing, people-watching, doodling, or creating your latest masterpiece in the warm, convenient atmosphere of your favorite cafe is daily necessity? Or if you're the more adventurous type, perhaps you need something portable, along the lines of a Grail Diary, to document your pursuit of the arcane, holy or downright supernatural, in a quest to save the world?
To those ends, we've created this "Cafe" -sized version of the Studio Note, with the standard "shinsho"* book dimensions of 110x176mm (about 4x7 inches) and 384 pages. It's a modern size, very slightly larger than the Grail Diary, except with more and presumably better quality pages.
The result is a much slimmer format that's half the weight of the A5 Studio Note (216 grams vs 426 grams) and 3mm thinner (12mm vs. 15mm). The impression is that it's much more portable, far less bulky, and easier to carry. And, compared to the larger A5-series books, the cover is a bit thinner, more flexible and thus easier to fan through the pages.
But wait, there's more! Since the shipping weight is 360 grams or 12.9 ounces, a single book can be shipped within the USA via USPS First Class mail (under 15oz), which can be nearly half the cost (depending on where you want it delivered) than Priority Mail!
Specifications
- 110x176mm
- 384 pages (192 leaves)
- Slip case
- Coated-paper cover
- White Tomoe River 52gsm paper
- Pink blotter sheet included
* "Shinsho" is the 2nd most popular** book size in Japan, also known as "Slim B6". Shinsho books are primarily non-fiction.
** "Bunko", or A6, is the most popular size - mainly used for fiction. The Hobonichi Techo is A6-size.
The Shinsho and Bunko sizes were created for rail commuters that spend a lot of time standing in trains and hanging out in cafes between trains or after work.

I have used this journal and loved it for years! I use it for a thought journal, to take notes in a group setting, to draw and collage in, to watercolor in, to keep bits of memories in, to sketch and doodle in...
I enjoy using my ink joy gel pens in here.. the ghosting is quite delicious to me. I love my Lamy pen with noodler's eel ink in various colors.. ghosting is not nearly as pronounced. I watercolor with my Daniel Smith watercolors, or my various other kinds.. really lovely!! I've been pleased with ballpoint ink, pencil, everything I've tried in these delightful books!!
They fit perfectly in a Speckled Fawn B6 slim. Really nicely!! Or a Chic Sparrow B6 slim. Just delightful!! I must have at least one blank of the small graph at all times or I will get a bit shaky with nerves! If you are on the fence.... definitely get one!! You won't regret it!!
I like this Tamoe River paper soo much better than the paper in the Midori notebooks, or even in the Hobonichis. I'm sure it is the same as the tomoe river in the hobonichis... I'm just in love with these cafe notes.
I would like to have the option of buying some with the old boxes at the top and bottom of the pages. Most definitely. Would be great. I do miss those. Wont keep me from buying them, just would like to have both.
Thank you Nanami Paper! Y'all are wonderful!! Truly da bomb!! Bravo!!! Thank you!!! Please always be in business!!!!!

Paper is great! The book is huge so if you use water color, the book will get super chunky and wonderful. This is my second Nanami book. Will always use these!

My café note arrived safely, after USPS brought it to Canada, then I do not why it went to Malasia and back to Canada. I was so scared that the package will be damaged but no...very happy.

This is such a great notebook! The quality of the tomoe river paper is AMAZING and holds ink and watercolors very well. I bought this notebook to fit into a few B6 slim leather folios and travelers notebooks I have purchased from several makers, and it fits them all perfectly. Love this notebook for my bullet journal and art journal and will definitely purchase again!

I love everything about this notebook. The Tomoe River paper, the B6 Slim size, the fact that there are enough pages to bujo an entire year, and the price. This grid is a little small at 3.7 but I have small handwriting and use a 3.7 pen so it’s perfect for me.

Wow, I love the A6 Caffe Note but I think I love the B6 slim size even more. There is no better for sure. Love the 3.7 mm lines especially as I write small and really, even if you don't do you really want to write only a few sentences on a page when it comes to notebooks with much wider lines. Awesome size, design, amount of pages is nice. I will be ordering these of different projects etc and to differentiate them will simply put some colored round sticker about 1 cm wide on its spine. Someone wrote they would like monthly spreads etc, but really, do we need more of those, so many are available from various manufacturers and simply you can divide these nicely organized lines yourself for your own style. I prefer to use these for actual notes etc.

I recently received my B6 Slim Cafe Notes and it was love at first sight. It's a great size and I feel like I'm cheating on my A6 Techo, but to be honest, it really is that Goldilocks find, it's just right!!!!
