Many fans of the A5-size Studio Note have found it a bit too large for everyday carry - indeed, lugging it in a briefcase, purse or tote can be tiresome over the length of a long walk or commute on the subway, and it seems to make sense to use it mainly in an office or studio setting.
But what if relaxing, people-watching, doodling, or creating your latest masterpiece in the warm, convenient atmosphere of your favorite cafe is daily necessity? Or if you're the more adventurous type, perhaps you need something portable, along the lines of a Grail Diary, to document your pursuit of the arcane, holy or downright supernatural, in a quest to save the world?
To those ends, we've created this "Cafe" -sized version of the Studio Note, with the standard "shinsho"* book dimensions of 110x176mm (about 4x7 inches) and 384 pages. It's a modern size, very slightly larger than the Grail Diary, except with more and presumably better quality pages.
The result is a much slimmer format that's half the weight of the A5 Studio Note (216 grams vs 426 grams) and 3mm thinner (12mm vs. 15mm). The impression is that it's much more portable, far less bulky, and easier to carry. And, compared to the larger A5-series books, the cover is a bit thinner, more flexible and thus easier to fan through the pages.
But wait, there's more! Since the shipping weight is 360 grams or 12.9 ounces, a single book can be shipped within the USA via USPS First Class mail (under 15oz), which can be nearly half the cost (depending on where you want it delivered) than Priority Mail!
Specifications
- 110x176mm
- 384 pages (192 leaves)
- Slip case
- Coated-paper cover
- White Tomoe River 52gsm paper
- Pink blotter sheet included
* "Shinsho" is the 2nd most popular** book size in Japan, also known as "Slim B6". Shinsho books are primarily non-fiction.
** "Bunko", or A6, is the most popular size - mainly used for fiction. The Hobonichi Techo is A6-size.
The Shinsho and Bunko sizes were created for rail commuters that spend a lot of time standing in trains and hanging out in cafes between trains or after work.

Some shadowing but no bleed through with fountain pens.

The paper is incredible of course, the size is perfect! I just wish that it did not have the 3 boxes along the bottom and the 1 on the top left. I want to use it as a journal and I don't like having those there. It would be ideal if they would make this with plain paper! I would never have to buy another Journal again between this one and the A5 size. I don't even look for anything else anymore, I'm spoiled and only want to use these!

Although I used an A6 Hobonichi, as far as notes were concerned (personal and for work), I thought that A5 was the perfect size for me and that was that. I bought a blank A5 Seven Seas and while the quality was and is amazing, I just didn't find myself utilizing it. I decided to bring out the B6 and I haven't looked back. We all know the paper quality is amazing, but this is TRULY an every-day-carry size, and the clear plastic cover fits is perfectly and I just throw it in my back. I hope that this size is never unavailable because it is the perfect notebook for me at an amazing price point.

The B6 Slim Cafe Note is the notebook size I have been searching for. For my use it beats out everything else in terms of function and value.

The Nanami Paper Cafe B6 is just about perfect for my use. The dimensions are just about right.
My wish: a version with 12 monthly grid calendars - UNDATED at the beginning of the book. At present, I am drawing these monthly grid calendars in my Cafe B6. It works, but pre-printed calendars would be prettier and convenient. A version of the Cafe B6 with at least 12 monthly grid calendars will earn a 100% rating from me.
I use mine as a Daily Journal - or occasional journal would be more appropriate. I like to note the activities that I complete in the monthly grid calendars for easy reference.
I do not write everyday - but when I do, I may write on more than 1 page.So the open format works very well for me and for how I use the notebook.
I also wish that the Cafe B6 came in both the white and cream paper. I like the grid version.
And again - I wish for 12 monthly grid calendars at the beginning of the book.

My package arrived 3 days after I ordered. It was packaged very well. Therefore it did not arrive damaged in any way. The notebook itself is perfect, more than what I expected. The paper is beautiful and smooth. I look forward to using it for journaling and notes.

I first discovered this notebook on Instagram, under the #cafenote tag. I was so pleased to find it in stock, and ordered 2 plus TN elastics. They arrived super speedily to Canada. The quality and size and feel of the B6 slim notebook are excellent. I am just dying to finish my current A5 journal so I can move on to this smaller size. I would definitely order again from Nanami. Thank you~

This is a perfect tool, not too small, not to big, free enough to draw any layout that you want or if you don't want layouts.. also fits. If you are fountain pen user.. this is your notebook, maybe.. just maybe a mix between graph and dot and... maybe blanks in a thicker notebook will be interesting... But overall my final tool.!!!
