Many fans of the A5-size Studio Note have found it a bit too large for everyday carry - indeed, lugging it in a briefcase, purse or tote can be tiresome over the length of a long walk or commute on the subway, and it seems to make sense to use it mainly in an office or studio setting.
But what if relaxing, people-watching, doodling, or creating your latest masterpiece in the warm, convenient atmosphere of your favorite cafe is daily necessity? Or if you're the more adventurous type, perhaps you need something portable, along the lines of a Grail Diary, to document your pursuit of the arcane, holy or downright supernatural, in a quest to save the world?
To those ends, we've created this "Cafe" -sized version of the Studio Note, with the standard "shinsho"* book dimensions of 110x176mm (about 4x7 inches) and 384 pages. It's a modern size, very slightly larger than the Grail Diary, except with more and presumably better quality pages.
The result is a much slimmer format that's half the weight of the A5 Studio Note (216 grams vs 426 grams) and 3mm thinner (12mm vs. 15mm). The impression is that it's much more portable, far less bulky, and easier to carry. And, compared to the larger A5-series books, the cover is a bit thinner, more flexible and thus easier to fan through the pages.
But wait, there's more! Since the shipping weight is 360 grams or 12.9 ounces, a single book can be shipped within the USA via USPS First Class mail (under 15oz), which can be nearly half the cost (depending on where you want it delivered) than Priority Mail!
Specifications
- 110x176mm
- 384 pages (192 leaves)
- Slip case
- Coated-paper cover
- White Tomoe River 52gsm paper

* "Shinsho" is the 2nd most popular** book size in Japan, also known as "Slim B6". Shinsho books are primarily non-fiction.
** "Bunko", or A6, is the most popular size - mainly used for fiction. The Hobonichi Techo is A6-size.
The Shinsho and Bunko sizes were created for rail commuters that spend a lot of time standing in trains and hanging out in cafes between trains or after work.

This notebook is an absolute dream for a bullet journaler. The grid is smaller than the normal 5mm which means that you can fit the same amount of information as an A5 notebook! The B6 slim size fits perfectly in the hand, and with it being taller than the A6 size, it works with Hobonichi Weeks stickers. I am on my 3rd one of these notebooks and can't see using a different one for the foreseeable future.

When I first discovered Nanami's Cafe, I eagerly purchased the A6 grid book, I found this one ideal.
However, about a year later, I saw the 2020 schedule book photographed with the B6 slim, and bought it based on looks, yes, looks alone.
I later started writing in it, and wow, I do prefer the B6 slim over the A6.
I'm torn apart by which size I like more, the A6, or B6 slim

This is my second one of these notebooks. I love the size and it has a lot of pages. Beautiful for writing with fountain pens as you would expect from Tomoe River paper. Fits perfectly in my Sojourner folio.

This is such a perfect notebook for my Chic Sparrow B6 slim travelers notebook. I also buy the Cheap Cover for the Cafe Notes because I put the strings of my TN between the plastic cover and the book. That way my Cafe Notes pages don’t crumple because of the weight of the book on the strings. It’s absolutely perfect and it makes me happy! I’ve bought the grid and love it for my bujo before but I plan on trying the ruled Cafe Notes next.

This notebook is lovely all together, my only wish is that the graph was a bit larger so that it’ll be easy on the hand. Other then that the paper is smooth and a dream to write on.

Love this paper and the size. I have used all the tomoe river notebooks from NanamiPaper and love all of them. This and the A6 size are my favorite!

Just the right size between A4 and A5, with just the right kind of paper :-)
Works well with both fountain pens and gel pens. Can stick post-its in the middle, doodle, whatever.
Packs a ton of sheets in a compact body that both (1) opens flat, and (2) feels good with wear.
Just bought another one after running through all the pages in the first one!

I love this company and their products. I have so many of their books. I love the paper. Very comparable to the Hobonichi if not the same thing just undated. The only negative thing is the shipping prices. The shipping itself is amazingly fast. But you pay the price. That's my only issue. Other than that love this product. All the sizes.

I have really enjoyed this notebook and the only reason I give it four stars is because I didn’t realize how it doesn’t deal with water well. Hey but what notebook does? I wish I could do four and a half. I’ve had thicker paper notebooks get damp and smear but could still read the writing but in this notebook the ink just separates completely and I can no longer tell what was written. That is the ONLY downside. Otherwise it’s beautifully bound and I really like the cover. I’ve wrote in it since January 1st as a bullet journal and it’s so enjoyable. I’ve carried it in my bag without any cover quite a few times and it has held up wonderfully. I do have plans to buy a wallet cover this month and look forward to that. I like being able to just to carry my journal instead of a bag.
