This notebook is made with the "new" Tomoe River paper.

Our Partner in Japan is now manufacturing a Japanese-market version of the Seven Seas Crossfield! It is being sold at major stores such as Tokyu Hands and Loft.

The notebook is standard A5 size, and slightly thinner that our US version, with 384 pages. This makes it easier to carry around the city in a bag or briefcase (most people in Tokyo do a lot of walking, cycling, and catching buses and trains).

It also has a spacious 7mm grid, which is perfect for the Japanese writing system of Kanji and Kana. But you know what else we love about it? 7mm is also very popular for script, but since it's a grid pattern, you can use the notebook in either "landscape" (normal) mode, or flip it to "portrait" mode, for the same effect as using a full A4-size notebook.

Otherwise, it has the same great lay-flat, sewn-bound and feather-free qualities as our regular lineup of Tomoe River notebooks.

Specifications:

  • 52 gsm Tomoe River white paper
  • 384 sewn-bound pages
  • 7mm full grid (not cross grid like the US version)
  • Water-resistant cover in choice of orange and teal blue with attractive logo
  • Lay-flat binding
  • Rounded corners to reduce dog-earing

I wish those japan version come with more pages but this do not stop to continue place my order and re order more. The square space are no tiny size and to promote or encourage to the people who write bigger (as me) to enjoy write it more. The paper texture it is so great too; never complain with the new Tomoe river. I own different brands notebook but nanami ... quality paper is is top of the top. Congrats for that to the company. High recommend (positive) this particular model; it is a good addition to any collector or a writer fan as me.

I have long wanted to keep a commonplace book. I've now found the perfect means with which to do so.

  4. Great variation of a tried and true notebook 5 Star Review

Loved the thinner size for some projects. Binding and paper is wonderful as always.

  5. Love the smaller version for carrying around 5 Star Review

I do love the older paper, but even just the slimmer book size does make it handier for carrying around. The binding is very nice too.

  6. High quality, but I'll miss the 100 pages of the other versions 5 Star Review

These notebooks are of excellent quality and I'm sure they will serve me very well. My primary attraction to Nanami's Seven Seas notebooks is the quality of the binding and their ability to fit a massive number of pages in a small package. It is a bummer that old Tomoe River paper is going away and you can't still buy 480-page versions of this notebook, but 384 is still quite a bit!

  7. My new favorite notebook, and my favorite place to order 5 Star Review

Posted by on 15th Jan 2021

I just got mine the other day and I'm very pleased. The notebook is much lighter than the other A5 options, but of the same quality. The larger grid is comfortable, inobtrusive. The paper of course is fantastic.

  8. A slimmer version of the Crossfield 5 Star Review

Posted by on 29th Dec 2020

I got this because I much prefer the old Tomoe River paper to the new stuff, at least in the reviews I have read. I have not actually tried the new paper but I don't like the sound of the changes that were made. The notebook itself is very well constructed like all Nanami Paper notebooks are. I like the bright orange cover and while I do like the extra pages the US version has, the slimmer Japanese version is perfect when you need a slimmer notebook. I have not used this one yet, still finishing a few pages left in my Standard notebook. If you are looking for a grid pattern notebook and want a slimmer profile, give this a go I think you will be pleased.

I love the 7mm grid, and you can’t go wrong with Tomoe River paper. The quality of the cover is lovely.
