 A writing mat goes under the paper you are writing on and enhances the pen- or pencil-to-surface connection. Mats, or "underlay mats", are very popular in Japan, where penmanship is still part of their rigorous educational system.

You can also use a writing mat as an extension of the end of a page in a thick notebook so that your palm always has a place to rest.

These blue mats come in two sizes: A5 and B6. Note that the B6 size is a standard B6, NOT the narrower B6-slim of our Cafe Note.
