Many fans of the A5-size Studio Note have found it a bit too large for everyday carry - indeed, lugging it in a briefcase, purse or tote can be tiresome over the length of a long walk or commute on the subway, and it seems to make sense to use it mainly in an office or studio setting.
But what if relaxing, people-watching, doodling, or creating your latest masterpiece in the warm, convenient atmosphere of your favorite cafe is daily necessity? Or if you're the more adventurous type, perhaps you need something portable, along the lines of a Grail Diary, to document your pursuit of the arcane, holy or downright supernatural, in a quest to save the world?
To those ends, we've created this "Cafe" -sized version of the Studio Note, with the standard "shinsho"* book dimensions of 110x176mm (about 4x7 inches) and 384 pages. It's a modern size, very slightly larger than the Grail Diary, except with more and presumably better quality pages.
The result is a much slimmer format that's half the weight of the A5 Studio Note (216 grams vs 426 grams) and 3mm thinner (12mm vs. 15mm). The impression is that it's much more portable, far less bulky, and easier to carry. And, compared to the larger A5-series books, the cover is a bit thinner, more flexible and thus easier to fan through the pages.
But wait, there's more! Since the shipping weight is 360 grams or 12.9 ounces, a single book can be shipped within the USA via USPS First Class mail (under 15oz), which can be nearly half the cost (depending on where you want it delivered) than Priority Mail!
Specifications
- 110x176mm

* "Shinsho" is the 2nd most popular** book size in Japan, also known as "Slim B6". Shinsho books are primarily non-fiction.
** "Bunko", or A6, is the most popular size - mainly used for fiction. The Hobonichi Techo is A6-size.
The Shinsho and Bunko sizes were created for rail commuters that spend a lot of time standing in trains and hanging out in cafes between trains or after work.

I'm returning to Nanami notebooks after a few years away and really no other notebook compares. After using the A5 size in the past I decided to try the B6 Slim and I'm hooked. It's a wonderful and intimate size. I was delighted how well the TR paper takes a variety of medium including pencil, colored pencil, posca paint markers and neocolors (in addition to fountain pens, of course). Thank you for these very special notebooks.

I use my notebook as a work planner and notebook. The huge amount of pages means my notebook lasta a long time for work.
I also use these books as my bullet journal. And it's the perfect size for fitting in the information I want, and the huge pagecount allows me write up longer reflections long-form journaling. The paper is smooth, not glossy - it's a joy to write on this with my fineliners or fountain pens. And the blotting paper is a life-saver! I enjoy using your notebooks and hope to keep using them for a long time!

I’ve been using the B6 notebook for years. Fast shipping and a quality product draw me back time and again. I love how the paper feels and sounds. And when the notebook gets chonky!

I love the size, heft, cover, I.e. everything about this B6 slim! I thought my love was an A5…and for journaling, it still is. But this little notebook is perfect in so many ways. It came swiftly and easily all the way to Canada. Glad I found Nanami!

Although I would prefer to have lined paper, my need for a new notebook made the compromise to what was available necessary. I love the paper and do not find the grid a drawback. As I work with it, I may appreciate some advantages.

Just perfect for journaling. A fountain pen and a Cafe Note and I'm a happy camper.

This lives up to the hype in every way. The binding is superb- you can open it to any page and fold it back on itself as many times as you would like, and it keeps its integrity without a single scratch. The paper quality is also fantastic. Even though it's very thin, there's no bleed through from the opposite page. I understand that these are designed to be used with fountain pens- I use a regular ink pen and it's worked incredibly well. Another thing I greatly appreciate about how well this is made is that the ink is absorbed almost instantly onto the page. I'm left-handed and so many notebooks over the years have resulted in smeared words and a nice reservoir of ink on the side of my hand. I haven't had that happen yet with this notebook, and I think it's solely due to how great the paper is.
I also like the size of this particular notebook- it's pretty small, and I typically write small, so it's more or less the perfect size if you have very tiny handwriting; I could see this becoming frustrating for someone with larger handwriting though, in which case you might want to play it safe and get a larger one. That would be the only caution I would give on this, and it just comes down to personal taste and preference. The build quality of this is immaculate, and I can't imagine ever going back to a different notebook. This really is all that and a bag of chips, and worth every penny- you'll honestly feel as though you got away with an incredible bargain.

We’ll, I know the new Tomoe River paper has received some negative reviews but I like it. It behaves well with my fountain pens anyway. The cafe note is the best size notebook for me and as ever, it is superbly made and worth every hard earned penny.

These notebooks are the best. I love the color of the ink on the grid and the quality is outstanding.
