Many fans of the A5-size Studio Note have found it a bit too large for everyday carry - indeed, lugging it in a briefcase, purse or tote can be tiresome over the length of a long walk or commute on the subway, and it seems to make sense to use it mainly in an office or studio setting.
But what if relaxing, people-watching, doodling, or creating your latest masterpiece in the warm, convenient atmosphere of your favorite cafe is daily necessity? Or if you're the more adventurous type, perhaps you need something portable, along the lines of a Grail Diary, to document your pursuit of the arcane, holy or downright supernatural, in a quest to save the world?
To those ends, we've created this "Cafe" -sized version of the Studio Note, with the standard "shinsho"* book dimensions of 110x176mm (about 4x7 inches) and 384 pages. It's a modern size, very slightly larger than the Grail Diary, except with more and presumably better quality pages.
The result is a much slimmer format that's half the weight of the A5 Studio Note (216 grams vs 426 grams) and 3mm thinner (12mm vs. 15mm). The impression is that it's much more portable, far less bulky, and easier to carry. And, compared to the larger A5-series books, the cover is a bit thinner, more flexible and thus easier to fan through the pages.
But wait, there's more! Since the shipping weight is 360 grams or 12.9 ounces, a single book can be shipped within the USA via USPS First Class mail (under 15oz), which can be nearly half the cost (depending on where you want it delivered) than Priority Mail!
Specifications
- 110x176mm
- 384 pages (192 leaves)
- Slip case

- White Tomoe River 52gsm paper

* "Shinsho" is the 2nd most popular** book size in Japan, also known as "Slim B6". Shinsho books are primarily non-fiction.
** "Bunko", or A6, is the most popular size - mainly used for fiction. The Hobonichi Techo is A6-size.
The Shinsho and Bunko sizes were created for rail commuters that spend a lot of time standing in trains and hanging out in cafes between trains or after work.

I was contemplating getting the A6 hobonichi but I know with my journaling style the daily listed pages would not work for me. Plus it was also just really small. What a difference a few inches make with Cafe Note b6 slim size. So when I saw this notebook with the same beautiful paper in a less structured setting I had to order. Shipping was fast and the product is amazing. I will be ordering a few more just to keep my collection growing.

The b6 slim size of this notebook is really convenient. And the quality of the binding is typical top-notch that you expect from Nanami. The grid on the paper is a tad smaller than I am accustomed to, but easy to get used to. The Tomoe River paper is top quality as always. This is just a fantastic little notebook for all around carry. I do want to get a cover for it eventually.

I bought the Cafe B6 notebook along with its Gfeller cover. This is a power user's notebook -- the slim B6 size is a perfect combination of space and portability, and the page count means, for me, several months of use.
FYI this notebook is jacket-pocketable for men, though a tight fit, depending on the garment.
I thought I would ignore the blank boxes at top left and bottom of each page, but they are actually great productivity tools - I can hashtag pages or reference line numbers for easy paging back.
I'm a fountain pen user, and this paper is miraculous for how little it shows through. However, depending on your ink choice, use of the blotter sheet is either important or essential. I have very good, neat performance with Lamy, Pilot and Pelikan ink. Noodlers and Aurora are messy in this book, lifting off onto fingers or smudging the facing page if you're careless (though in fairness, these inks behave somewhat the same even on Rhodia paper)
I'm using this notebook as a daily journal and poetry cahier. It's more than capable -- I'm very happy to have made the choice.

This is fantastic! The paper feels wonderful, the notebook opens flat, just...
I love it! But, I don't think I'll be getting another one for a bit because I've got my eyes on the other B6 and maybe an A6 blank...

This little book is a giant help to my life! I love the size. Lots of pages yet does not weigh much. I love that it opens flat.
The paper is divine! I write with fountain pens and there is nothing better than Tomoe Rive paper for that. I also love the grid paper. I ‘kind of” bullet journal, and the grid keeps things organized. I also paint with watercolor!! And it’s amazing how the paper completely holds up. The first thing I do when I start a new book is number the pages at the bottom and create an index in the front. This is extremely helpful!! and I am easily able to find things again. The cover holds up very well.
Lastly, I take a group of pages in the back, divide the page in half, and count off 10 lines. I use this to record unusual things or interesting ideas. It’s the right amount of space to jot it down! I highly recommend this wonderful book. Buy two. You’ll be so happy you did!!

The perfect size for daily on-the-go journaling filled the BEST paper in the world! What more can you ask for in the crazy stationary community we're apart of?! Love it!!!

I was looking, very specifically, for notebooks to use alongside my Hobonichi Weeks planner that used the same paper and the same size grid as the Weeks (and any of Hobonichi's Japanese language planners, for that matter). This is the notebook that I found, and I love it. I can use the same pens and the same small handwriting as I use in my Weeks with no disconnect. The B6 slim notebooks provide just enough page real estate to be good project and learning notebooks. Their ability to lay flat when open is fantastic, and the title and footer blocks are handy for good indexing. I will definitely be buying more!

Love the proportions, the high page count, the paper, the affordability, and the restrained design. I can't fault this product at all! I'm using it as a 3-year diary, and as soon as I can think of a(n exc)use for another I will reorder

The quality of this notebook is outstanding. I absolutely love tomoe river paper and the value of pages in this notebook for the price is amazing. I love the way it's packaged and how it comes with a blotter sheet. I'm definitely going to be repurchasing.

I originally bought this for a B6 TN I own to use as a bullet journal/art journal. It is just a little narrow for the TN and is about an inch narrower than my Stalogy B6. And I really didn't pay attention to the actual measurements. That said, it is a great little notebook. I love the paper and the price is great. I think if it were 4.5 inches (or the cm equivalent) it would be perfect for me, as I think the Stalogy is just a little big. Though now that I think about it, it may just be perfect for the personal size TN I have....
