Nanami's Cafe Note in "B6 Slim" has arrived! This is the 7mm Rule version. This one is bound with Sanzen Tomoe River paper.
Sometimes it is available on Amazon Prime.
Many fans of the A5-size SSW (Seven Seas Writer) have found it a bit too large for everyday carry - indeed, lugging it in a briefcase, purse or tote can be tiresome over the length of a long walk or commute on the subway, and it seems to make sense to use it mainly in an office or studio setting.
But what if relaxing, people-watching, doodling, or creating your latest masterpiece in the warm, convenient atmosphere of your favorite cafe is daily necessity?
To that end, we've created this "Cafe" -sized version of the Seven Seas Writer, with the standard "shinsho"* book dimensions of 110x176mm (about 4x7 inches) and 384 pages.
The result is a much slimmer format that's half the weight of the A5 SSW (216 grams vs 426 grams) and 3mm thinner (12mm vs. 15mm). The impression is that it's much more portable, far less bulky, and easier to carry. And, compared to the larger A5-series books, the cover is a bit thinner, more flexible and thus easier to fan through the pages.
But wait, there's more! Since the shipping weight is 360 grams or 12.9 ounces, a single book can be shipped via USPS First Class mail (under 15oz), which can be nearly half the cost (depending on where you want it delivered) than Priority Mail!

* "Shinsho" is the 2nd most popular** book size in Japan, also known as "Slim B6". Shinsho books are primarily non-fiction.
** "Bunko", or A6, is the most popular size - mainly used for fiction. The Hobonichi Techo is A6-size.
The Shinsho and Bunko sizes were created for rail commuters that spend a lot of time standing in trains and hanging out in cafes between trains or after work.

I like everything about this notebook: the soft but rugged cover; the Tomoe River paper; the overall construction; and the ruling. The 7mm rule is perfect for my handwriting. The line color is light and disappears into the background on a written page. My only wish is that the B6 version becomes available with cream-colored paper.

There's a lot to like about this notebook. It's small-ish but has tons of pages, and there's not much feathering or bleed through. Also, it lies flat. That's a big plus for me. So far, I'm impressed.

Lovely, minimalist design with supple spine, making it easy to lay flat when open. The paper is exquisite. It can take any ink. I will be ordering more of these. Thanks, Nanami!

A very, very good notebook

For its size, there's so much room to write in this notebook. I enjoy the subtle, but present, lines, and the width works really well for my handwriting size (your mileage will vary on this point). The paper is excellent and takes well to pretty much any pen/ink combination you'd like to throw at it. The cover and subtle shape to the corners should allow it to hold up to months and months of use. I think this notebook will serve its purpose (commonplace book) quite well.

The Cafe B6 Slim is fantastic!!! Tomoe River paper never...ever disappoints!!! The note book is well constructed and absolutely perfect for my everyday needs. My go to inks are Noodler's 54th Mass and Baystate Blue. If you know fountain pens you know these are very saturated sometimes poorly behaved inks. Tomoe River paper and these notebooks handle them both flawlessly. Using my extra fine nibs I do experience a bit of ghosting but nothing that prohibits me from using both sides of the page. Again, can't recommend this paper/notebook enough. Ordering is always easy and the only time I am not happy is when the product is out of stock. Will most definitely be back and you should too!!!!!

This notebook is everything I needed. It is definitely fountain pen friendly; it makes my inks literally shine. The compact size is also a bonus. I wish it was more available though, but it is okay. It is worth the wait.
