This is the listing for the translucent green soft mat. It is flexible and has a matte finish.
A writing mat goes under the paper you are writing on and enhances the pen- or pencil-to-surface connection. Mats, or "underlay mats", are very popular in Japan, where penmanship is still part of their rigorous educational system.
You can also use a writing mat as an extension of the end of a page in a thick notebook so that your palm always has a place to rest.
Made in Japan.
Actual size is slightly larger than ISO size. Exact measurement is 155x215.

I love these writing mats. I have one of those old fashioned large wooden desks that one would see in home offices throughout the last 50 years of the 20th century. Unfortunately not the greatest surface for a single piece of Tomoe River paper and fountain pen. I love to write on single pieces of paper unless I'm writing in my journal. I kept putting off buying one of these mats, and I have no idea why. I went with the soft mat in both the A4 & A5 size. As soon as I put the paper on the mat I put nib to paper. Oh what a glorious writing experience! I could clear my desk and just have the writing mat, paper, and fountain pen, nothing else getting in the way of the writing. I think the soft mat is perfect for a large desk where you have plenty of room to just sink into the writing.

I've been using the A4 size and bought A5 to use with a smaller tomoe river paper pad. Works very well with fountain pens and thinner paper.

I bought the A5 hard mat and this A5 green soft mat. The hard mat was for me useless and I would not recomment it to everybody. But this soft mat is perfect for fountain pen users. You can easily write now to the edge of the right page or to the bottom of the page. You put it under the sheet of paper and give your hand a position to rest.
