This is the listing for the translucent green soft mat. It is flexible and has a matte finish.
A writing mat goes under the paper you are writing on and enhances the pen- or pencil-to-surface connection. Mats, or "underlay mats", are very popular in Japan, where penmanship is still part of their rigorous educational system.
You can also use a writing mat as an extension of the end of a page in a thick notebook so that your palm always has a place to rest.
Made in Japan.
Actual size is slightly larger than ISO size. Exact measurement is 155x215.

Must have for Tomoe River-ist..

If you're writing in Tomoe River (52 Gsm) paper, this is a must have. I find better controlled-writing in this soft paper with the mat especially when using a soft/flex fountain pen nibs.

Beautiful! I was a bit worried about getting a "soft" mat, but it turned out amazing! Far better than the "hard" mat, at least for how I use it.
I got two of the A4 size and ended up actually cutting one in half since I realized I wanted to use it in my scratch notepad at work, too! I never want to write without one again! ...just wish I could get this in more sizes!

This is a great writing mat. The flexible material makes it a pleasure to write on, especially on very fine paper and it doesn't slip around like others I have used in the past. Worth every cent.

I ordered both the green soft and the clear hard mats and definitely prefer the writing-feel of the soft green mat. I use it in my notebooks as well as my A5-size schedule book.

Very comfortable to write on and stays put
It is slightly larger than I thought it would be but that doesn't bother me since I use single sheets as much as notebooks

When ordering online, I was not sure what sort of texture, thickness, or flexibility this mat would come in. "Soft," after all, can mean a lot of things when compared to the hard plastic type of writing surface. However, this has turned out to be quite superb, if not so fantastic for resting a hand on at the bottom of the page. Nothing that can't be solved with another notebook or a phone.

I have not used a mat before and I am glad I purchased this. Provides a soft backing for the Fountain pen to write on.

I like this soft green mat better than the harder clear ones I have. It has one side that is smoother than the other, so you can use either side depending on your preference. I don't really need a writing mat when using fountain pens because I don't press hard, but it's good to have one if using a flex nib or rollerballs, or if you just don't want any marks on the next page.
