1. Yet another stellar product from Nanami with one caveat.

   First, let me start of by saying that you cannot go wrong ordering from Nanami Paper. Their work is top notch, and their products are absolutely amazing.
   
   I’ve been searching for the perfect notebook for a long term project that requires upwards of 1,200 pages per year. Tomoe River Paper was an easy choice, as it’s thinness really helps slim down even the largest capacity notebooks. It took me a long time to decide on Nanami. I really wanted the Standard, but could never catch them in stock.
   
   I finally decided to go ahead with the Writer, even though I prefer no lines. It’s wonderful; from it’s scrumptious pages to its stellar craftsmanship. I absolutely love it...except the embossed cover. I am so bummed that there is (to me) a big, shiny “W” on the front. It really detracts from the simple elegance of the Writer, in my opinion. Obviously I knew ahead of time, and still bought it. I’m looking into some options to cover it up. But I do have to admit that I really hesitated buying it. Hopefully my solution to cover it works without grunting detracting from the beauty of the notebook. Otherwise I’ll have to end up switching to something else.

2. ALMOST the Perfect Notebook

   I am a huge fan of all the Nanami notebooks, from the Cafe Note A6 up to the Seven Seas. The Writer has been my absolute favorite, but now that they are only available with cream paper instead of white, I’m a little bummed. As a fountain pen user, I use Tomoe River notebooks to show off the amazing qualities of the different inks I use. Unfortunately, the cream paper tends to take away from the inks’ brilliance. Other than the cream paper, though, it’s fantastic!
   
   All that I ask is to PLEASE bring back the white paper, at least as an alternative option, and maybe a book mark or two. But overall, the Seven Seas Writer is still one of the greatest notebooks available for fountain pen users.

3. Elegant, refined, durable, reliable...

   I love journalling in these beautiful, delicate and yet very resistant paper. It has encouraged me to go back to my ink pen, which i used 20y years ago. Mainly, it has become my companion and dear friend during my most intimate reflections and openings while writing and journalling.

4. Workhorse of a Journal

   The Writer is hands down the best journal I've had the pleasure of owning. It has an immense page count, and the cover and binding make it so you can write in any orientation. Lay it flat on a desk, bend the spine on its back to write in your lap or in your hand, whatever.
   
   Lots of users here abide by fountain pens. I can't speak to that. I use ballpoints, pencils, felts and gels. There is ghosting but it's unlike any other paper; it's not off putting in any way. If that is a concern, I'd say not to worry about it all.
   
   Adding a small flap pocket for small miscellany on either the front or back cover to The Writer (any of the SS products) would absolutely take it over the top for me, but I feel that would be asking too much.
   
   Yes, the journal is very expensive, but it will last a very long time and it looks great.
   
   UNFORTUNATELY, this review is for the 5th edition. I noticed as I sat down to write this review that there's a small change to the new 6th edition: there's now an awful stamp on the cover. The Writer's huge appeal to me was it's minimalism and practicality. This new stamp, which looks like the logo to wordpress or westworld, ruins it. It's a shame that people needing a marker to designate the front of a journal is enough to make a visual change like this. I hope the idea of logos doesn't spread to the other SS products. Sadly, I will not be purchasing them if they do.

5. My absolute favorite journal.

   I spent so long debating which journal to get. I wanted one that was A5 size, thick, fountain pen friendly, and would fit nicely in a leather folio that I have. This journal checked all of my boxes and then some. It's a joy to open up each day. I love the way my pens glide across the paper. It fits my folio like they were made for each other. At the rate that I write, I suspect I will get a good five to six months in this journal and that couldn't make me happier. To those concerned about the price, I ask you to calculate the price per page. This journal, even with shipping factored in, costs less than other well known, but less expensive (and not as delightful) journals per page because other journals don't have half the pages in them.

6. Fantastic Journal!!!

   I write Journals as well as novels with fountain pens. I absolutely love these notebooks! Not only is the paper outstanding, and the current edition is my favorite Cream color of Tomoe River, it's just an absolute dream to write on. My nib just flows across the page and brings out the color of my inks like no other paper. The sepia lines are light and just fade to the background once there is ink on the page so it seems they aren't even there. There is some shadowing but nothing bad enough to bother me. I've bought more of these then I probably should because I have to have several of these as reserves just in case something happens to my current one. I hope this edition is continued well into the future!

7. Great journal, some QC issues

   Love the journal. Just recently started using fountain pens and this is by far my favorite paper to write on. However, there are some issues I've noticed. For one, the lines vary in color from page to page; some are lighter than others. Even on the same page, there are large areas where the lines gradually fade to where they're barely visible. Additionally, the lines do not line up page to page, meaning that the lines on some pages will start higher than others. I do like the writing experience, but I wish the quality was a bit better.

9. SUPERB JOURNAL

   This is simply the best made, most beautiful and only journal I've been entirely happy with in every way, ever, and I'm pretty old and have bought a zillion journals. One thing to note for both those who hate and those who love lines. I hate them in general but I ordered the Writer anyway because both my first choice, the Crossfield, and my second, the Standard, were out of stock and I didn't want to wait. The lines in the Writer are very, very pale and gray, I believe; they are so pale I'm unsure of the color! This was a surprise to me - a very pleasant one - but may be less than pleasant to those who love lines, are counting on them to keep their writing straight and don't have perfect eyesight. In fact I suspect the lines are hard to see and keep to even for those who do have perfect eyesight. I absolutely love the Writer. My order was shipped pronto and delivered in three days. Cheers!

10. different from the older versions, but still excellent.

    While I had bought several of these notebooks before, I was still using an old first or second generation Writer and so never had the chance to notice just how different this fourth edition feels in hand. The covers are substantially stiffer, and while this makes the notebook a bit more usable if taking it out with you, I find myself still partial to the older covers. I do like that the included blotting paper is trimmed down a bit, and so doesn't poke out from inside the notebook, but I miss the inclusion of the bookmarks in each notebook, as I found myself using them every single day. While the quality of materials and craftsmanship is still absolutely top-notch, I would really love to see the bookmarks reintroduced and have an option to choose between stiff and soft covers, even if it meant paying a premium for it.
